field trip from athensAt Washington Farms we do Pumpkin Farm Field Trips in October (Watkinsville location only) and Strawberry Farm Field Trips in April and May (both locations). Both field trips include an educational talk about how we grow the strawberries/pumpkins, what plants need to grow, pollination by the bees, the role of leaves in photosynthesis, and "how to pick" instructions. We use enlarged photographs in the talk as well as a bee puppet. The talk is geared to the age of the children and lasts about 10-15 minutes.

Payments

  • We strongly urge that you pay for the field trip with a school or personal check.
  • We can always refund you in cash for children who do not come, or you can add cash to adjust for last minute changes.
  • We want to spend time with the children, and not with the collection of money.
  • Please collect money from students and siblings prior to arrival and have one adult per group in charge of handling payment.

When to Arrive
Please call 2-3 days prior to your trip to give a more specific headcount of the total number of children, teachers, parents and siblings coming. Please arrive for your "check-in-time" approximately five to ten minutes prior to the start of your field trip so your group can start promptly. We may not be able to extend your field trip time if you are late. We do not like to have to hurry you through what should be an educational and fun field trip.

Important Information for All Teachers and Group Leaders
We've learned this one from past experiences: Do not assume that the bus driver knows where you are going. Click here for our map. Be sure to give it to the bus driver before you leave your building. Please call us if necessary. When you arrive, please have your designated "lead teacher" go to the red shed to give a total headcount and payment. At that time, you will be told where your group needs to go first.

What to Bring

  • several Sharpie markers, or labels to label children's strawberry containers or pumpkins
  • baby wipes for the children's hands (after the petting farm)
  • large box for carrying strawberry containers or pumpkins

Inclement Weather
Bad weather in your area does not necessarily mean that it will be bad weather here at the time of your field trip. If you have questions, please call us at (706) 769-0627.

You may also go to weather.com. Our zip codes are 30677 (Watkinsville) and 30052 (Loganville).
