Fall Gem Mining Field Trips

What’s Included?

• Self guided tour with 25+ FUN FARM ACTIVITIES for you and your students!
• Online access to our educational video lesson about rocks, minerals, and fossils!
• Each student will receive their own 3lb bag of sand filled with 6+ ounces of gemstones to sift through at our Gem Mining Sluice!
• Each student will receive an educational gemstone ID postcard and a collection bag for their gems.

How Gem Mining Field Trips Work: Each class will be assigned their own specific time slot of 30 minutes to visit the gem mining sluice. Each student will be given their own 3lb bag of sand filled with 6+ ounces of gemstones to sift through at our Gem Mining Sluice! Each student will also receive an educational gemstone ID postcard!

GRADES:

• 3rd – 6th Grades ONLY!

DATES & TIME:

• September 23rd – October 31st
• Tuesday – Friday Mornings
• 9:30am – 1:30pm

COST:

• Students: $18.00 (+tax) per student*
• Teachers: 1 Teacher free per 10 children ($10.00 per additional teacher, does not include gem mining bag)
• Early Bird Special (Sept 23rd – 26th ONLY): $16.00 per student/teacher
• Adults /Siblings / Parents / Chaperones**: $12.00 General Admission ticket plus taxes and fees ($14.48) Does NOT include a gem mining bag.

**IMPORTANT: Parents, chaperones, siblings, etc. need to purchase their admission tickets ONLINE in advance. Parents, chaperones or siblings can purchase a “Field Trip Parent/Sibling” ticket here. If they want to purchase a Gem Mining bag, they can do so at the Gem Mining Station at the farm. 

PAYMENT:

 You MUST bring payment on the day of your field trip. We accept cash, a check, or a credit card at check-in. Payments for students must be made in one transaction. Money should be collected before arriving at the farm.

IMPORTANT  INFORMATION for TEACHERS:

What to Bring:

• Sharpie markers to write each child’s name on their gem collection bag! You may also bring pre-printed labels if you prefer.
• Small Box or bag to take home your group’s gem mining treasures!
• Water bottles or other drinks (there are no available water fountains on the farm)
• Lunch or Snack
• Baby wipes / hand sanitizer
• Collapsible wagon to hold water bottles, jackets, etc.
• First aid kit, Benadryl and/or anti-itch cream, sunscreen, etc.

Things to Remember:

• Dress appropriately for a day on the farm – tennis shoes, jackets and long pants if needed, etc.
• We recommend traveling as one or two classes during your self-guided field trip.
• We have full-service restrooms with a changing table available.
• It’s a great idea to have each class wear a different color shirt. This helps us visually locate a class if someone arrives late.
• Name tags with the child’s school and a teacher’s phone number. If the child get’s separated from the group, we can easily contact the teacher and reunite them with the class.

INFORMATION for PARENTS / Guests joining a Field Trip:

General Admission Price: $12.oo plus taxes and fees ($14.48 total) per person (ages 2 & up) for anyone joining with a field trip. This includes all parents, siblings, grandparents, or other guests.

HOW & WHERE TO BUY A TICKET: If you are a parent, grandparent, or visitor coming with a child on a field trip, you will pay ONLINE in advance and check in at our admission building when you arrive. Parents and guests can purchase a field trip ticket below.

Access to our weekday fun farm activities! A full list of the weekday activities that are included is listed below. Please note that some activities including the MegaSlide, Ziplines, Corn Maze, and others will be closed during the week.

Your admission ticket does NOT include a Gem Mining Bag of gems. You can buy purchase your own Gem Mining bag at the farm.

Inclement Weather

If rain is predicted, you have a couple of options.

We recommend waiting until the morning of the field trip to make a decision about whether or not to come. So often, the forecast changes and the rain may hold off until after the field trip. If it still looks like it may rain that morning, you can call us (as early as 6:00am) to cancel or reschedule. If we feel that it would be best not to do the field trip due to weather conditions, we will contact you as soon as possible.

We understand that sometimes waiting until the last minute is not an option. You may cancel or reschedule if you feel that it’s necessary based on the weather forecast. If this is the case, please call us to let us know of your decision so we can try to find a day and time to reschedule.
